WISCONSIN RUSTIC ROADS

Whether traveling by car, motorcycle, bicycle, or on foot, Wisconsin’s Rustic Roads program has allowed Wisconsinites and visitors alike to experience our state’s natural beauty and historic charm for over half a century. We’ve come a long way since our first Rustic Road was designated in Taylor County back in 1975, and now, more than 50 years later, we’re proud to boast nearly 760 miles of scenic, lightly traveled country roads across 61 counties. Every rustic road has its own story, and as governor, I’ve had the pleasure of welcoming six new roads to the program since 2019, bringing our total to 126. Along our Rustic Roads, folks will encounter rolling, rugged terrain inhabited by Wisconsin’s native wildlife, historic bridges offering picturesque views of bluffs and hills, and countless historic cabins, churches, and schoolhouses. No matter the season, your expedition on Wisconsin’s Rustic Roads will allow you to unwind and catch a glimpse of the state’s vast and vibrant outdoor spaces, with each trip revealing a unique piece of our state’s history. Regardless of how you choose to embark on your Rustic Roads journey, we couldn’t be prouder to share Wisconsin’s unmatched beauty with you. So, take this opportunity to slow down and explore the iconic rustic beauty that this program has celebrated for the past five decades and counting. - Tony Evers Governor
